Since 2013, the Carolina Reaper has been the hottest known chili pepper in the world. Three years after being named at the top of the World’s Hottest Pepper list with an average rating of 1,570,000 SHU by the Guinness Book of World Records for the first time, the Carolina Reaper upped its game and achieved an even hotter SHU score of 1,641,000 SHU in 2017, surpassing its own record. Some individual peppers have been found to reach up to 2.2 million SHU!
